For real people, if something works in theory, but not in practice, it doesn't work. For academics, if something works in practice, but not in theory, it doesn't exist.
True: I've met many academics who've spend their whole careers working on topic X, and have never once bothered to interview non-academics whose entire livelihoods depend on a deep practical understanding of topic X.

Different situation. The end game for Tesla Semi is fully auto. The market for TS is large co.'s who don't want drivers which is why they aren't talking to drivers. I drive in Queensland, Australia. We see big changes (eventually) and opportunities..

I studied politics at U Ottawa where the dept was 500m from Parliament. We once had a Cabinet Minister as a guest speaker. Afterwards the lecturer told us the tenured faculty were shocked he thought to invite, then successfully hosted, a politician guest speaker. Best class ever
