Men are the problem. Testosterone is the problem. With few exceptions, women don't murder, war, and rape the world. 99% of violent crimes are men between the ages of puberty and bad knees. Women should be in charge of everything.
For over 500 million years, female mate choice has been in charge of the sexual selection that shapes male aggression. Or do you not understand evolution?

I'm worried that I may not understand evolution because I don't follow the argument. When selecting for individuals for societal positions I care about their dispositions, not the evolutionary pressures behind those dispositions. What am I missing?

What you're missing? From your picture I'd say you're Western and live in a relatively nice country. So I guess you have the five walls of protection around you and likely don't have a good chance of being robbed and murdered tonight. You're missing a genetic motivation.

It’s not about aggression but survival and defense. Do YOU understand evolution? Male animals compete not to show aggression but show that they will be able to fend of other animals in the interest of survival.

I don't agree that women should be in charge of everything, but female mate choice has not been exercised for much of human history because rape was extremely common in our species. Reducing male aggression to female mate choice is simply wrong from an evolutionary perspective.

I wouldn't say it's more or less common in bonobos because I'm unfamiliar with the example. I'm only making a narrow point of disagreeing with Geoffrey's claim that female mate selection is responsible for male aggression, which is made false by any incidence of rape by humans.
