Been saying this for past 2+yrs, glad someone else with "status" is giving this matter attn;we have the ability &intellect to build AI in govt for good of ppl, need to kick politicians out of AI strategy&design&smart ethical ppl get engaged.

Dont be dramatic; it’s a global arms race and there is no policy or controls that will prevent it. On the plus side imo we are far away from true AI, the kind that becomes self aware. We are missing a technological hardware revolution eg. quantum computing

Can't we just oblige prospective Chinese PhD students stay in the US for some more years after their doctorate, so that they can't take Western know-how and apply it in China? That would give the West an edge over China, because we're still ahead quite a bit.
