I am not American, but I can understand why the US keeps nukes. If the US would denuclearise, it would be a peace of cake to wipe it from the map by other nuclear forces. What exactly do you propose?
Any nation that did that would impose nuclear winter on the whole world, so they'd all starve within a year. Isn't that a deterrent?
