In Canada we have hate speech laws. You are free to say whatever you want in privacy of home etc. But once you start disseminating it, trying to have public platform, Its not protected. No Blind devotion to free speech at all costs/at expense of vulnerable & social cohesion.

I’m not sure this is the case at all. The memo doesn’t show a move to “abandon” a commitment to defend the first amendment, just how to select the cases to defend using their limited resources. Your hyperbole seems misplaced.
