Hey @HdxAcademy, isn't this a great moment for a statement to the effect that even academics with widely diverse political opinions at least wholeheartedly agree that the policies of the Trump administration are completely unacceptable?

We are not in a position to make statements like this. I anticipate that the vast majority of our members would agree that many policies of Trump are unacceptable, but precisely the point of our organization is not to take stands on issues, but to create space for others to do so

IMHO, it is _extremely_ important for
@HdxAcademy not to take positions on any political issues, no matter how much of a no-brainer the issue seems in the moment. We lose all credibility if we do so.4 replies 3 retweets 42 likes -

I do see the point you're making, and I appreciate your careful formulation. But I'm not entirely convinced. Are there any limits to this principle? What if the government goes even further? Is there *any* moment at which even the HdXA would say, OK, this is simply unacceptable?

Only if the gov't adopted new policies that directly infringed on free speech or viewpoint diversity. Our only mission is to protect those. Other groups can address other issues.
