What corporeal punishment do you think our society could stomach imposing publicly on an attractive young woman? Lashings, like in Saudi Arabia? Canings, like in Singapore? Wayerboarding? How would that be a good look, given public psychology?
Since when is something being a good look or not something either of us cares about when we're trying to decide what the best policy is?
You know how PR issues work. There's a profound double standard about physical punishment being imposed on men v. women, and esp on young attractive women. It's not a matter of ethical principles, but of citizens reacting to punishment that would appear 'cruel and inhuman'
