If you're outraged by human offspring being separated from parents, maybe also consider what happens with dairy cattle and millions of other factory-farmed mammals per year. All have attachment instincts and intense distress at separation. #sentience

I agree that the treatment of animals can be awful in factory farms. However, if the animal is raised compassionately, are the happy lives the cows live before being killed not better than no life at all without agriculture? Their species has thrived under human intervention.
I agree that this 'logic of the larder' might make sense for free range, pastured cattle. They probably have net positive lives.

All dairy is inherently cruel as it is the exploitation of the female reproductive system & the maternal deprivation is immense & they all end up at the slaughter house. Sanctuaries exist today where they can live out their full lifespan without being exploited or killed.pic.twitter.com/kdt0H93lSS

Not to mention that dairy is linked to many diseases & is terrible for the environment. There are great dairy-free products for everything now, such a terrible industry belongs in the past.
