Out of nostalgia, tried rewatching 'Goldfinger' (1964) & 'The Spy Who Loved Me' (1977) on the recent Pacific flight. Then rewatched 'Casino Royale' (2006) & realized it's vastly better in every way than any previous Bond film.

But the drop off after is steep. Quantum was awful, Skyfall was tedious at best, and I was bored into catatonic stupor watching Spectre. Connery's were at least consistent.

This is a good take. That torture scene from Casino Royale is arguably the best Bond scene of all time, and Skyfall can’t be beaten for actual meaning and character motivation. Both superb films in the series.

Casino Royale is in my top 5 Bond films. Objectively it is a better film than the others... But it doesn't have the nostalgia factor. At least not for me, who's been watching these films all my life. That it cracks the top 5 says something of its quality. Skyfall was sick too.
