Why are most websites for UK and Australian academic departments so poorly designed and user-unfriendly? For example, most don't include any obvious list of their faculty members. Serious question -- I'm truly puzzled.

If you’ve spent anytime living or working in the UK then you’d reevaluate this assertion and acknowledge that given the cultural context that these websites are probably the most user friendly thing we have here.
I lived in the UK for nine years. The academic websites are actually the least functional things in the country. IMHO.
