Men that spend a lot of time talking about mating behavior (=SEDUCERS) DO use these terms... they are quite explanatory. You can use high-/low-status, high-/low-value, high-/low SMP, etc. But ALPHA/BETA are great shorthand. I'd add the SIGMA/OMEGA distinctions as well.

Scientists do use these terms for animals. However it seems that we don’t see ourselves as animals (even though we are). And as with many other high status titles, if you have to refer to yourself as “alpha”, you ain’t alpha.
