Flying to Australia for a panel discussion on free speech. It's odd that Australia has no bill of rights, no general right to free speech, & only a weak 'implied' right to freedom of political speech. For all of America's troubles, I'm grateful for #1A.

I think we generally have a pretty strong culture of free speech (we like to think of ourselves as fairly resilient), though there are some sensitive spots. Bill Leak cartoons are an interesting case study perhaps.

I don't think we have a strong principal or culture that defends free speech (sadly). But less partisan tribalism means speach is less fraught.
