When aren't we virtue signaling? That's really what I don't understand about evo-psych. If it always applies to human behavior, then what use is it? Or do I just get to select the virtue and mechanism in any combinatoric manner?
I don't quite understand your question, but my website http://primalpoly.com includes a bunch of papers on evolutionary moral psychology and links to some talks on virtue signaling. Might be helpful.

Will check it out for sure, thanks. In case you respond to a rephrasing, does evo-psych apply *some* signal to every behavior? Or are there signal-neutral behaviors?

e.g. if I buy a car, am I signaling some virtue no matter what? (wealth, responsibility, etc.)
