The issue is pretty complicated. Public accommodation laws were enacted because some groups were so discriminated against that they ended up spending more money for worse hotels, restaurants, and even hospitals. The refusal to serve blacks created big roadblocks to equality. /1
The issues are complicated, but that's all the more reason to point out inconsistencies between how the Left views freedom of association in the sexual vs. economic domains.

Bearing in mind that a lot of the people arguing for the freedom of conscience not to serve gay customers would also argue that it should be illegal to burn a flag. I don't think it's incoherent to treat private sexual relationships differently than public accommodations.

I just want a more principled argument from jurists about why these domains are treated so differently, since there are so many edge cases, e.g. sex workers selecting clients.
