No, but I think financial penalties and flogging are better deterrents, and we should only jail people who are dangers to others.

It drives the point home at low cost to society. The criminal has already cost society enough, don't you think? We lock up the criminally violent because they are dangerous. We let them out because we are weighing the cost against the danger. Age may have cooled them off.
