I disagree w @SamHarrisOrg here & am far more troubled by @nytimes than he. I think what he thinks makes it pretty good is exactly what makes it terrifying to me. I agree it often fact checks. It’s well written. It often includes reporting. But news-narratives are a deal breaker.https://twitter.com/abcnews/status/1002059733275238400 …

Profoundly self-deceived bias wrapped in the illusion of professional objectivity (NY Times, The Economist, Pravda) is much more dangerous than amateurish, shamelessly partisan enthusiasm (Breitbart).

Exactly, no? I’m fascinated by why this point is so difficult to make. It’s the “uncanny valley of journalism” where things get hyper disturbing the closer the form gets to objectivity, while the narrative remains the true, if hidden, driver.

I don't disagree. As I said in this interview, the burden is on journals like the NYT to be impeccable (and to apologize and correct errors immediately). I also said their standards appear to be declining.

Only the Centrist understands the danger and can clearly see what is happening. The biased people are destroying and twisting logic and reason to fit their own agenda, it is a selfish act on their part.

Today's centrist is yesterday's radical Leftist. The 'centre' moves Left overtime because moving it Left bestows power and status. The centrist sees nothing.

The danger difference between Breitbart and leftist MSM is the same as that between Fascism and Marxism (though less extreme). Both are aimed at the same destructive end, but Marxism is more deceptive because it's messaging is palatable. Our sensibilities make marixism dangerous.

If it's profoundly self-deceived, that's a plausible explanation to me of why it is so hard to land the point. People have inched to the bias so slowly that perhaps they aren't aware they've crossed any line of truthfulness.

Harris is complicit with the Structure, so he doesn't see how far the rabbit hole goes: we live in a type 2 society, in with the Cathedral - the organs of information generation + dissemination - control the State and provide "guidance" aka progressive, neoreligious instruction.
