Yes, they should take on-board valid criticism and learn from it, It does feel like many members of the journalistic profession have gone off track, but burning the institutions to the ground would cause chaos, I think reformation is preferable to revolution.
Police going on strike would cause chaos. Journalists going on strike would cause... what, exactly? Blesses quiet and the time to read non-fiction books that are actually informative?

Police going on strike would cause immediate chaos. Journalism would be more long term. The effect would likely not be felt immediately, but given enough time, we'd end up with a population ill-equipped to choose the right representatives or practice reciprocal accountability.

If we're talking about a country void of independent journalism, you are removing checks on the power structures, no Harvey Weinstein revelations, no Watergate reports, the effects may not be seen immediately but over time tyranny would seep into society.
