I voted for "scientists," but (per @nntaleb) people tend to overestimate the contributions of formal scientific inquiry vs. tinkering, so a good case can be made for "entrepreneurs" as well. (Disclosure: I'm an entrepreneur with a background in theoretical physics.)

Nothing about the modern world would exist without scientists and engineers. Right from the beginning of agriculture and onward, science made the discoveries that entrepreneurs later found a way to make money off of.

And who are most admired, looked up to and emulated ? F***ing rock stars, film stars and rappers, and god help us all - the Kardashians !

But can you remove any one of these and imagine society where it is today? It’s kind of like asking, what’s contributed more to evolution? mutation, migration, genetic drift or natural selection?
-
Slight phrasing error. Evolution isn't specific to changes in organisms. It refers to processes. Natural selection isn't a contributor to evolution, its 'Evolution by Natural Selection' referring to the processes of organisms changing. That could be by mutation, environment etc..

Activists find new possibilities latent in society, scientists in nature. Journalists diffuse information, entrepreneurs deploy resources to find new applications latent in secrets of science or society.
