Well his whole gimmick is that the strife is what brings people together - it's sort of like a 9/11 parable. We were all 'united' after that terrible tragedy. Similarly, in addition to allowing resources, the tragedy would bring people together - in Thanos's eyes, anyway.
Two weeks since seeing Infinity War, and I'm still writing down ways that Thanos could have solved the galactic Malthusian problem more creatively & humanely. I'm up to about 279 better strategies.
