Radical idea: Suppose Americans actually trusted democracy for once, and we had a year of binding popular referendums on some key issues that politicians can't seem to resolve. What propositions should we vote on?

Americans DON’T (or shouldn’t) trust a true, pure democracy. That’s why we established a republic where elected reps deliberate these issues.

Yep. And yet, the reps seem helpless to confront, much less solve, some of the biggest problems, given the influence from campaign finance, lobbying, two-party system, gerrymandering, etc...
