Why are daycare workers required to have a college degree? 'To promote early learning'. Insanely overestimates the power of 'education' and underestimates childhood curiosity & caregiving instincts. It's pseudo-psychogy weaponized into guild protection.https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/all-opinions-are-local/wp/2018/05/22/d-c-s-degree-requirement-will-be-a-disaster-for-day-care-workers-and-parents/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.1c3fcfa921c7 …

Anybody dealing in industries with children or social services must have their instincts rewired. Can’t expose children or people in need to independent thought. Also colleges want more money.

Given the slave wages daycare workers receive, I can't see anyone who put the work in to get a degree would be interested. After all, they have student loans to pay off...

Perhaps you would support qualifications and certification before people can be parents. Let parents decide who is qualified, not the state.

Legit question here for a change. How do you view the current application of the family? I have my own ideas and such, but I'm looking for bigger picture.

People who go through college education are more likely to have unique and creative perspectives; improved learning strategies, higher emotional intelligence, less likely to be abusive to children? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I’d say people who have experience parenting or years of working with small children would be less likely to abuse. It’s impossible to understand what caregiving for children entails without hands on experience.

Daycares anywhere in the west are expensive, hard to find, filled to brim and constantly short on skilled and passionate staff. "Lets add some regulations that will help" . Most of the younger staff without degree are students anyway ffs.

College degree signals consciousness and higher class. Don’t want the “wrong ppl” working for you, let alone taking care of your kids
