Type 1: Physical interventions help, but netfolk can't physically intervene, so complaining to them for help mostly spreads psychic pain.

Type 2: Insightful analysis of the routes into, out of, and through sadness should have a positive impact. Never really seems to? But not negative.

Type 3: Some sadposting is really good art that improves the world with beauty, while and despite possibly helping people to wallow.

Type 4: Sad tweets naively judged world-detrimental by effect are still better than *vague gesturing* hashtags and current event tweets.

i personally love seeing other people's sadjokes, makes me feel less alone, but i dont know what effect it has on other people, and i dont know if i should sadpost less

Yeah, and it's not just commiseration. The arrow of (reading sadposts -> less loneliness) also goes through (your friends seeming to have greater anti-phatic emotional depth/realism) for example.

And I suspect this is partly gender-coded, but for me the arrow also goes through "some kinds of patheticness are romantically attractive because of the opportunity to provide for the afflicted". Not sure if I should be ashamed of that.

do you think making a sadpost a joke sufficiently neutralizes the emotion contagion aspect of it?
