My uncle has a vat of algae that's been in the family since 1956. Each year he adjusts the climate control to be a little more Martian.

This is beautiful. Is it just temperature that's approaching Martian? Does he pull a partial vacuum? Did he add perchlorates after Curiosity analyzed the regolith? I feel like every family should have one, passed down through generations.

Ah! Well! If it doesn't exist yet, then that's all the more reason for me to become a weird amateur exobiologist uncle with an heirloom bell jar terrarium.
