Today I fished a tube of toothpaste out of the bin and found easily enough inside to clean my teeth. Over the years I have observed that there is *always* enough in any tube. But a simple inductive proof contradicts this. How can I live with the cognitive dissonance?
You content yourself with a smaller portion of toothpaste the harder it is to extract.

You're not so inconsistent in your judgements of tube volume that you've ever fished a tube out more than twice, and so you've never been surprised on your third retrieval, which would not contain a full portion.

Toothpaste tubes slowly replenish in garbage cans. The fact of their always containing another portion is due to your not overgrazing them by only brushing a few times per day.
