Very humbling when a painting looks good as it is but it looks terrible when flipped left to right. Brain should not be tricked so easily.

Why is this humbling? The artwork was designed to be viewed a certain way, so why be surprised that not viewing it that way makes it look bad?

Oh! My paintings. It's surprising that the portrait I thought I'd almost finished, when viewed through fresh eyes, isn't even humanly proportioned, much less accurate to the subject.

There are inaccuracies and mistakes I can't see because they've become familiar, and persistently mistaking one (abnormal facial) geometry for another is a more startling failure of the visual system than lots of other visual illusions. Like mistaking a cube for a pyramid. Crazy.
