It’s not really the Fed’s job to support equity prices. The notion that it is might be part of the problem.

As I said, when the Schiff incident was brought up: politicians call and complain to media all the time that they’re being treated unfairly. It may be inappropriate, but as long as media doesn’t bend, there’s no real scandal.
Quote Tweet
McCarthy had his general counsel "spend hours" with senior executives at Twitter trying to get Marjorie Taylor Greene back on the platform after she was banned for violating misinformation policies. From @jonathanvswan @CatieEdmondson nytimes.com/2023/01/23/us/

The other accusation against Schiff is that he improperly leaned on Twitter, only to get told to take a hike. That may pose a valid political criticism against him, but it doesn’t make him a security risk.

The main accusation against Schiff is that he peddled a story (Russian collusion) that his opponents argue was proven false. First, that’s only partly accurate. Second, the nature of political disagreement is to disagree about what is true and/or important.

With Swalwell, I at least get the implication (his connection with the Chinese spy). Even though the FBI cleared him of any wrongdoing, at least that casts a plausible shadow of concern.

I’ve yet to hear a concrete, substantive reason for this, besides “we don’t like his politics and priorities”. But the same can usually be said for the opposing party, no? And in the minority, he can’t control the committee’s agenda.

From abroad, the mass shootings in the US seem like a preventable illness. Two friends in the UK independently told me “if Americans don’t want to fix the problem, I can’t feel sorry for them.” It gave me pause.

Count me as cynical, but I harbor serious doubts that cutting off aid to Ukraine will suddenly cause us to get serious about other stuff.
Quote Tweet
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) argues against military aid for Ukraine, claiming it’s not “where the real problem is.” Fox’s Brian Kilmeade: “Think down the line, though. You let Russia take 20% of a country, what about the next country? Give them another 20?… You gotta play this out.”

Don’t you dare say Trump has a special relationship with Putin, though.
Quote Tweet
Rep. Troy Nehls on Fox News says that if Biden really wants to end Russia's war on Ukraine, he needs to "call Donald Trump. Donald Trump will call Vladimir Putin and end this war."

People with Frenchness.
Quote Tweet
We recommend avoiding general and often dehumanizing “the” labels such as the poor, the mentally ill, the French, the disabled, the college-educated. Instead, use wording such as people with mental illnesses. And use these descriptions only when clearly relevant.
