UBI will be a popular solution and perhaps a needed one. I don't like the solution of "attention taxes." Interesting to note that people don't report being any less happier (!) in part bc the desire for conspicuous consumption/aspirational signaling is decreased for these men

Why? Here's one of many. Signaling value has gone down. Unless you can distinguish yourself as a top 20% (and thats increasingly more difficult in an accelerating competitive environment), it's far easier to opt out for a "safe" digital realm.pic.twitter.com/Ipl0Eq4Yew

I don't like the solution of an "attention" tax but it's certainly an interesting and difficult problem. While the authors worry about decreased economic growth, it's probable to me that automation would more than cover for it.

The sad and likely more important question is how to keep the population "amused into irrelevance" so they don't revolt as
@antoniogm phrased it. Improving video games/VR/sexbots + drugs will likely be a big part of the solution.Show this thread
