Totally agree. This is not a sanctity of life issue and cannot be compared to killing an innocent baby by abortion. This is an issue of appropriate consequences for a heinous crime.

I think the death penalty poses a moral dilemma for conservatives. I understand that from a Christian's viewpoint, only God can decide when someone's life ends, so the death penalty, by default, isn't Christian. However, I totally understand the moral arguments in favor of it.
