I agree with this for the most part. At the same time, too many people associate American with white. Unless proud Americans of all backgrounds push back against that idea, and celebrate contributions of citizens of all races, we're not going to be able to move forward.

Quasi related: It would appear that FDR was the first disabled President. Maybe JFK too. I didn't learn that in school. I would imagine embracing them as disabled would do a lot in the eyes of both disabled and abled Americans to show what is possible.
