There's a sort of charm to the idea of California splitting, but I am fairly sure that, like a bad divorce, it would get even messier than it is now, and probably set a bad precedent in the process.

Isn't the coastal CA staying regular California and the freedom loving Americans in rural California want to be "New California"? How would the Congress houses be set up? Electoral colleges?
