Christmas is both a religious holiday and a secular/commercial one. The good will offered on behalf of either should be accepted in its intended spirit, even if the one receiving it doesn't celebrate it. Where's the offense?

The only caveat to this is that an employee should be free not to attend if he is not comfortable with it. Some people prefer to avoid social gatherings for personal reasons, and that should be okay as well.
