So to say “women not knowing what STEM is” smacks of sexism. The opportunities are there, as my own life proves, so there has to be other factors as to why women aren’t entering those fields as often as men - other than “lack of knowledge.”

False. Every math and science teacher I had (male and female alike) pushed me and other girls to succeed in those areas. While I didn’t enter the more lucrative science fields, I have an AAS degree in Civil Engineering & am a Professional Land surveyor for the last 21 yrs. 1/2

In my college alone, the percentages of women vs men in my civil engineering and math courses were 50%. And that was back in the early 1990s. 2/2

Important that STEM programs/work environments be self-critical & welcoming to women since male-centeredness is widespread. Ask 5 women in STEM and see what they say...
