I read John Kasich's book It's Up To Us. One thing he talks about is that we can't petition the government to be moral, but that we CAN do it ourselves to encourage others to do so. I volunteer at a homeless shelter and I guarantee that there's someone who needs your help.

The notion that the federal government is all we have in common and what holds us together as a society is a direct result of the divisive nature of identity politics and the disproportionate focus on racial and ethnic diversity over assimilation into the American melting pot.
-
Agreed. The federal government at its best is but a necessary evil. Common humanity should hold us together.

Freedom of speech in the Bill of Rights was predicated on the assumption of a virtuous sociey. Some people are simply morons, and that's how they get themselves all messed up.
