It basically was a compromise between north and south. The south got to keep slavery but the northern states put in many clauses that were sorta poison pills for its eventual erosion (e.g. expiration of slave trade, 3/5 compromise).

It was also specifically designed to include slavery. Because most of the people who wrote it had slaves.
