Britain ended slavery before we did. (Not to defend all the other evil shit they did before and after.) US probably wouldn't have ended slavery if hadn't been for their example. As for the rest… debatable if not false.

Oddly, it is the civil rights movement of the 1960s that led to the end of the xenophobia. As late as 1971, Bruce Lee wasn't allowed to star in a TV show written for him (Kung Fu). The result has led to the integration of workers from Asia, the Sub-continent, Mideast, etc.
