The Brits had abolished slavery long before the Americans got round to even debating it as a political issue. Eventually, the US was shamed into it, so let's not get the idea that this was something noble and good.

The “Brits” and Americans abolished slavery back in the 1800s. And that’s “something noble and good.” Sadly, slavery is still practiced today in China, India, and Pakistan.

I did not learn this is school... My Italian grandparents taught me about worldwide slavery and how it existed for millennia all over the globe! It truly made me see the country and the world in a different light...
