You do realize this doesn’t negate the fact that many are there who aren’t, so what is the point? This is the same as saying the majority of the country is doing well financially so just f*ck poverty and health related issues.. oh well. This is a very bad take.

While it's true that the number of drug convictions in the U.S. is not the primary driver of our prison overpopulation, it's also true that even 15% is a troubling high number. Even short stays in prison encourage crime and can dramatically disrupt a person's life.

Yes in some way your right but you don't take into consideration that a first time offender is unlikely to be sent to jail. Prob probation, rehab and counselling first etc so those who end up in jail most likely have priors... disrupting their life is kind of the point of jail..
