On the one hand, the history is clear... but Socialism-light, as in what's practiced in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, or France to name a few, is I think what most in the left imagine, not the mao/stallin/castro kind. Let's not be hyperbolic about it!

As my AP world history calls it: communism with a capitalist twist. The government allows free markets under certain conditions. 1) Do not undermine the government. 2) you can do anything you want subject to government approval. 3) produce something the government wants.
