This is not the only way the hourly rate can change. The proportion of how much executives take home can be extraordinarily high, re-proportioning that is a better solution. Pretending that the only way the rate changes is by firing someone is foolish.

No its just plain ol economics. If they can't pay their CEO or their board enough, they will walk and work for a different company. Everything is a market, that's how business people think. Logic>emotion. Nothing personal.
