I mean Vennezuela has like 70-80% of it's economy privatized. It's more of a social democracy, like most of the first world. The main economic issue is that their main export was oil but they didn't want to shill for the US. Resulting in Saudi Arabia dropping global oil prices.

Higher GDP per person than the USA, more benefits from government AND higher take-home pay even after their crazy taxation. Of course they are small, homogeneous and come from a very strong traditional work-ethic. Culture and efficiency matter.
