No, it was never about being green, it was about selling shit. Mining the lithium ion (finite resource) is hard on the planet. Charging the cars itself requires electricity, something an all green grid cannot support.

Not at all the panacea that many hoped electric cars would be. We would do better to cleanup emissions production in existing coal-fire plants; e.g. installing advanced high efficiency particle arrester-type filtering devices that mitigate both carbon dioxide & sulfur emissions.
