This is very succinct; I love it. It is very difficult to be a divorced mother trying to keep her daughters on a path demonstrating that though their parents were unable to be together, that doesn't define them and they can check the wise boxes as adults, and are be successful.

I get the feeling there was more going on than is posited here. The idealist view of 1950's America was a myth. Racism was far worse then today. Corporations & the rich were taxed much higher than today, allowing growth and financial stability for the now-vanished Middle Class
