Religious tolerance? You mean like the protections granted to dhimmi, to practice their religion under Islamic law, that existed hundreds of years ago? Or when Constantine ended religious persecution in the Roman empire?

The Dhimmi system is probably a tainted example as it has often been used oppresively, and often morphs into a slippery slope of "othering" minorities from the majority. A better example of tolerance would be Mauryan India, giving birth to many other sects and religions(Buddhism)
