My taxes were the same from 2017 to 2018. The issue comes from not being able to claim work related expenses this year. The new tax code took $1500 out of my return

Not if you're an employee who is on a W-2 and drives their personal vehicle for work. I got screwed as they eliminated the mileage deduction for W2ed employees. Killing me.
