It fundamentally empowers the idea of states in "The United States". Without the Electoral College its "The 10 Biggest Cities of America" who make all the decisions.

Cities (as well as acres, rocks, grass, trees, cows) don't vote, people do. Why should people who live in rural areas have greater proportional votes. That's not fair.
