I’m not big on Tweetstorms, but I suppose if I am ever going to do one, now is the time.
For those who don’t know me: I am the author of several books about #ElectoralCollege. Been studying it since 2001. Yesterday, E. Warren came out against the E.C., as you’ve prob. heard /1

Wouldn’t these same tenets apply to proportional electoral college votes? I’m confused why the winner-takes-all system is so esteemed when a state can split its electoral votes. Seems like it would satisfy both sides.

If states had split electoral votes proportionally to the congressional districts, Trump would’ve won by an even bigger margin. Colorado wants to give all its electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote. That could backfire on them in a big way. Just keep it the way it is.

1) You kind of invoke the Founders as 1 bloc who sagely gave us the EC. It was a big compromise few liked & more grew to hate. 2) It’s not the system they designed anyway! We’ve changed it so much from original design/vision. Wouldnt have been ratified in 1787 in its current form
