If the electoral college is abolished then only a few major cities chose every election! So every candidate and political party would only rally in these few cities and most of the states will get ignored! So most states would get ignored by, for example, fundings too!

Only if you want the major Urban areas on the east and west coast to determine national elections, while less populated areas are silenced.
