This is a hard pass. The war was not fought to end slavery. It was to keep the Union together, and centralize more power. It's time to denounce Lincoln as a hero.

Lincoln was strongly anti-slavery his whole life. I agree that the Civil War was fought to keep the Union together more than to end slavery. But keep in mind that the US Constitution gave Lincoln no standing to fight the south on the basis of slavery. Secession was a valid cause.

I grew up and still live in the South. We were always taught that slavery was wrong and that the Civil War was fought over States Rights not slavery. We held Confederate soldiers as heroes and built statues in homage for their sacrifice, not to honor racism.

And the fight goes on, to free the indentured slaves still imprisoned on the Dem Plantations! Alas! There is now a great awakening! Thanks to so many fighting the good fight!

People be insane. Slavery has been going on for over 10,000 years. If it weren't for Western Civilization and "whites" it would still be world wide. As it is, it is still a "thing" is some countries. Where is the outrage for that? Hypocrites.

The civil war wasn’t to abolish slavery though. The reason it became a prevalent was to gain more troops so the confederacy couldn’t call for help from the Brits. It was political to begin with and out history books say it was for social justice.

http://No.Lincoln 's quotes show his only reason for war was to save the Union (taxes) because he could not compete with the taxes from the South nor a low tarrif competitor next door.

Slavery is not Americas shame, its the worlds shame. Slavery still exists to this day, but not in America and a great number of other countries. However instead of combating slavery world wide, people are attacking a country that banned it.

Wrong! Brazil abolished it in 1888.
