If anyone wants a college degree they should select a field that's actually in demand.

It is our fixation but also goes with the obscene cost for attending. My wife wanted to be an OT, in which a masters is required. 100k in debt later (public schools) = 50k job starting out, may eventually get to 80k. Being smart and fiscal, the loans will be paid off, still crazy

Fixation => High Demand. High Demand + Unlimited Government Lending + No Accountability = High costs. Businesses are animals, they eat, they breed, they expand. If you want to find out what's wrong, then it's usually consumers or the government.

Okay what are people getting degrees in that they can't pay off $40k in their lifetime (which is more than what it cost me to get my BA.) $40k is like buying 2 Kia cars in your lifetime. People can't manage that? Nobody is going in state to school?

I think the most valuable thing I learned in college was how to manage my finances and time. I never even considered taking out a student loan

It's because we (society) don't teach people how to live independently and take care of themselves responsibly anymore. Education is about indoctrination by memorization of facts (numbs the mind) and then belief in an agenda of victimhood. Nobody knows how to THINK anymore.

Got out of college with my BA, debt free. Worked 3 jobs and took 12 - 16 units every semester. Paid every bill every step of the way. It was not easy, in fact it was a lot of sleepless nights and hard work.

DeBlasio is using this same GoL strategy in healthcare for the city of New York. First award healthcare to all, then worry about paying for it later. Also, puppet arts? I laughed, but then looked it up and it exists at UConn.

Apologies to any puppeteers out there.

You mean our fixation on profits. People should always be learning. The fact they have to go so deep in debt to do so is immoral. Getting an education isn't always about getting into the work force. Some people just love to learn.

You can learn other places that aren't a college...books are readily available.
