I wrote a piece about the "Apprentice" producer Mark Burnett & Donald Trump. It's about how Trump would not be president without the show, and how the show itself was a huge con - and what happens when politics becomes just another form of entertainmenthttps://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/01/07/how-mark-burnett-resurrected-donald-trump-as-an-icon-of-american-success …

Burnett got his start on the Venice Boardwalk, hawking slightly damaged $2 t-shirts for $18. With "The Apprentice," he re-sold Donald Trump as an avatar of American success. (I unearthed this Trump quote from 2004, which feels too apt for words today.)pic.twitter.com/l7AfWGSB1t

What's crazy is if you talk to people who were involved in making the show, many of them say today that they *knew* Trump was a fraud and the premise of the show was a joke -- they were surprised when America took it seriously.pic.twitter.com/HjEvoT7E1W

Trump has boasted he made hundreds of millions doing The Apprentice, so people tend to assume it's not true. But it is: I confirmed independently. As the show took off, he and Burnett developed an odd-couple friendship that endures to this day (My favorite anecdote in the piece):pic.twitter.com/Gm7xEPMBx7

One irony worth contemplating: Mark Burnett - the very man who resurrected Trump from tabloid infamy and put him on a path to the presidency - first came to America as an undocumented immigrant.pic.twitter.com/Shgo5qhA3K

It's ridiculous to talk about things you couldn't fit into a 12k word article but I mentioned Burnett always wanted to break into scripted TV and wasn't very good at it... So for New Years, I give you: his ill-fated autobiographical sitcom "COMMANDO NANNY"https://youtu.be/Gu4W29kS8r8

If Trump’s Presidency is considered entertainment, I opt out of being entertained.

Why hasn't Mark Burnett been called to testify about trump?

I think that when the dems start investigating Trump, Burnett could likely be called to testify. Depends on what they need.

I actually recall an interview Mark gave where he talked about contacting Trump & said he could make him huge, because Mark had been the one to bring Martha Stewart full mainstream after her incarceration, & he figured he could bring Trump to the masses also. THIS HE DID🤬

The Apprentice first aired in January 2004. Martha Stewart was found guilty in March 2004 and released from her incarceration in March 2005.
